First Bauxite LLC, through its Guyanese subsidiary First Bauxite Inc. (FBX), was honored to host the U.S. Ambassador to Guyana Nicole D. Theriot at its Bonasika Bauxite Project yesterday. The visit reflects the mutual commitment of both the United States and Guyana to advancing responsible investment, sustainable development, and economic opportunity within the extractive sector.
Since beginning construction of its Bonasika mining and beneficiation facilities in early 2018 and officially launching operations in January 2020, First Bauxite has remained steadfast in its mission —"Safety First, Quality Always." Despite the global pandemic, the company reached full operations by early 2021 and has continued to scale and diversify, supported by strategic realignment in 2023 to better serve key industrial sectors.
“Our team was proud to showcase how we integrate world-class safety performance, environmental responsibility, and cutting-edge logistics at every level of our operations,” said First Bauxite CEO, Ralf Schoenfelder, who welcomed the Ambassador and delegation. “We value the support of the U.S. Embassy and the Government of Guyana as we grow responsibly and sustainably.”
The Ambassador toured the company’s ISPS-certified Sandhills port terminal, a model of safe and efficient logistics, where over 50% of FBX's output is shipped to the United States. These materials support essential industries including steel, ceramics, construction, and water treatment. After the tour, Ambassador Theriot said, “FBX is a great example of the strong bilateral trade and investment between the United States and Guyana. I was pleased to witness first-hand the company's commitment to safety, sustainability, local job creation and community engagement.”
With over 90% of its workforce comprised of skilled and dedicated Guyanese professionals, FBX continues to prioritize local development, job creation, and capacity building.
Looking ahead, First Bauxite has expanded into high-quality sand and clay, and is exploring additional resources for downstream value-added processing—including calcination—to reinforce its role as a leading industrial minerals provider.
First Bauxite remains grateful for the opportunity to support Guyana’s economic diversification and industrial transformation through responsible and resilient investment.
