Working With Government to Maximise Value of Bauxite Deposits

In addition to its world-renowned bauxite reserves, First Bauxite’s Guyanese operations contain significant deposits of high-purity quartz sand, ball clays, and kaolin.
The idea of expanding into these additional minerals was first raised in late 2021 during discussions with representatives from the Guyana Geology & Mines Commission (GGMC). The goal: to unlock greater value from the country’s mineral resources and promote sustainable management of overburden materials. While the concept took time to mature, it ultimately set First Bauxite on a path toward diversifying its mineral portfolio—one that today includes a broader range of industrial-grade materials for multiple markets.
Though the opportunity was compelling from the outset, the journey was far from simple. Selectively mining, handling, and transporting new minerals required are thinking of operations, and navigating the permitting and licensing process was a major undertaking. This progress would not have been possible without the support and collaboration of the GGMC, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the Ministry of Natural Resources. Their trust in First Bauxite’s ability to manage these resources responsibly was instrumental to the project’s success.
Through these close partnerships, First Bauxite is helping to maximize the value of Guyana’s natural resources—delivering sustainable outcomes that benefit both the country and its people. We are proud of the confidence the Government of Guyana has placed in us and remain committed to being a reliable, forward-thinking steward of the country’s mineral wealth.
